(18) Pool by EROS 1995 Painted in 1995 as part of a production inside a college game hall. I can't even remember which college it was for. Probably one that wouldn't have let my ass in to learn but they certainly would let me in to decorate their pool hall. haha. I don't remember but I think this was done from a quick sketch on the spot. Painted with Monk. I think we came up with the concept just to kind of please the school. It was cool. I rocked the background and rocks and even used my stencil tip technique and Monk rocked the water, some sharks and did a shark piece. All and all, it was a decent little mini indoor production. The bad part was there was no windows for us to air out the room so the fumes became very overwhelming. I remember using the ping pong table as our table to hold our paint. When we were all finished, we took the cans off the table and the dust particles were so thick it made a bunch of circle impressions on the table. It looked like some art deco piece of furniture. The job was granted to us from a connection we had through Intermedia Arts. They had worked with us and through the guidance of one of the past executive directors, hired a guy to come in and help a few of us sort of harness our talents for the good of mankind. The guy was pretty cool but he really never got to know us and always seemed to be a little shady. Like he was cutting behind the scenes deals or something and was taking a bigger cut or something. We really weren't making shit. I don't know for sure but something just didn't seem right and it only lasted one year. The collective we started was called Fluid Intelligence. The idea for the name was coined by Ewok Msk and voted in by all of us as the perfect choice. I really don't even remember who all was a part of it. I think it was Monk, Spel, Ewok, Mber, Kahn and myself. We had a gallery at IA and even got some pretty notable legal jobs like the Minnesota State Fair. It was cool but didn't last long. Fortunately and unfortunately, some of our pieces from one of our installation galleries is still up at IA today. I remember one of the coolest things we painted for that gallery, which we named "Society's Worst Nightmare", was a Piano that we painted and all tagged up. It's not that cool to look at now but back then as a young man being able to fuck up someone's piano was a pretty cool thing to do. Good times and good Memories! Pompeii - Lupinare Art 2 Artwork on the walls inside the Lupinare brothel which is designed to give the punters ideas for what they could get up to with the prostitutes who worked here. The Lupinare is one of the many brothels spread around Pompeii. Lupa is the Latin word for prostitute and this building was said to be the best organised of the brothels. There are 10 rooms for getting down to business – five downstairs and five upstairs – and the walls in the entrance room are decorated with paintings depicting the different positions that could be tried out in ‘games’ with the Lupa. This building also makes taking the audio tour entirely worthwhile as you get to here a very posh English bloke say the word ‘pimp’. It’s just not right somehow. Pompeii is one of, if not the, most famous archaeological site in the world. The entire Roman town was engulfed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD and preserved by the huge shower of ash that came down afterwards. The town remained buried for hundreds of years until it was rediscovered in the 16th century. Excavations proper began under the auspices of Charles III of Bourbon, King of Naples, though much of the early work though damaged the site and many works of historical importance were looted or destroyed. The site has now been preserved and, in some cases, restored, and an average of more than 8,000 tourists visit the site every day of the year. The excavated site covers more than 45 hectares and is amazing to visit, with numerous houses, mansions, theatres and shops preserved to an unbelievable extent. The ash which covered the site left the buildings in a great condition, meaning that you can get a real feel for what must have been like living under the Roman Empire.
